ACORN CAFE: Cultivating Local Roots in North Oakland
Acorn Café is a Sunday Pop-Up Coffee Shop in North Oakland. Our biggest joy is to bring our community together and watch our neighbors make or rekindle years-old connections.
To be able to continue to provide this type of gathering space - and expand on our offering - we are hoping to purchase a building in our neighborhood to become Acorn Café's permanent home. In this building you can expect not only a café but also a small convenience and specialty goods store and ... drum-roll ... a daycare!
Imagine leisurely sipping your cappuccino and taking a parenting breather, while your child is participating in a fun drop-in class at the daycare. Pick up some last minute groceries for dinner on your way out.
Our Story
We are The Williams Family—a blended family spanning from 13 to mid-40s, bringing together a unique mix of strategists, designers, nannies, entrepreneurs, and students.
Acorn Cafe began as a family endeavor with a lot of hope, and it has quickly become a labor of love and a life-changing experience for all of us. We’ve been running this business with heart, hustle, and whatever resources we can pull together—and along the way, we’ve learned so much about the power of community.
It’s been a huge lesson for our middle school and high school children, who are not only gaining business skills but also seeing firsthand what it means to contribute to a neighborhood and build something meaningful.This has been an all-hands-on-deck effort, and the support we’ve received from our neighbors has only fueled our passion to keep going.
We have the talent, energy, and conviction to make Acorn Cafe a success, and we are fully committed to this dream—pouring in our time, investment, energy, and love to bring it to life.
As a family, we’ve come to understand that community isn’t just something that happens—it’s something you build. That’s what Acorn Cafe is all about, and with your support, we will keep moving forward to make this space a reality for everyone in Gaskill and beyond.
